Medalists Announced

 

The winners of Race for Apps’ five categories plus an additional £5,000 cash prize from uTest were announced at the summit of the Digital Shoreditch Festival, held on 1 June, at Hackney House.

The winning entries were drawn from over 200 initial proposals, distilled to 40 competitors in five categories:

 

Finding Your Way

Gold: Hackney Hear by Hackney Productions CIC

"A GPS-triggered audio tour of Hackney; the stories and history of the borough as you walk."

Silver: Inquizitor: East London by The Connected Set

"An immersive smartphone based treasure hunt game, where players explore Hackney/East London by completing ‘hunts’ to win shopping discounts."

Bronze: Hidden Little Gems by Hidden Little Gems

"Hidden Little Gems is a Facebook App that gives you quick ideas of what to see and do, wherever you go – recommended by your friends"

 

Making Connections

Gold: LoYakk by LoYakk

"LoYakk is a venue-based application service that enables you to reach beyond your friends and followers and converse with people around you."

Silver: Mapply.com by eeGeo

Hackney Live allows exploration of a 3D interactive Hackney; using a familiar TomTom interface to navigate to areas of interest.

Bronze: instapp by Smile Machine

"Instapp is a mobile app showcasing the activity and events in Hackney entirely visually, making it accessible to tourists and locals alike."

 

Fun and Games

Gold: Track the Ripper by WildKnowledge

"Travel back to East London, 1888 & follow in Jack the Ripper’s footsteps. Try to identify & stop him before he completes his reign of terror"

Silver: Hackney Heptathlon by Maha Ventures

"Mobile location enabled game themed on Olympic events. Competition is virtual & based on questions & challenges related to Hackney."

 

Citizen Journalism

Gold: SlickFlick The Photo Story App by Curious Quests 

"SlickFlick app helps people combine photos & text to create great stories from their mobiles in just seconds."

 

Wild Card

Gold: Foodsplore by Foosplore

" Foodsplore will allow visitors to easily find, share and recommend cool places to eat. And make visiting Hackney a memorable experience!"

Silver: Brick Lane App by Design Revolutions

"We’ll develop mobile apps, for iPhone and Android (et al) phones and show them how to cook Indian dishes EXACTLY like the Indian restaurants"

Bronze: Onsite by Caecus

"Location specific help and information using a mobile phone and low cost bluetooth radio tags."
